    At Mauresk, we’re proud to introduce you to Driss Hemmi, a remarkable guide who embodies the spirit of Moroccan hospitality and adventure. A proud Berber from the Oriental High Atlas, Driss’s journey began with a deep commitment to his family and community. “I’ve always wanted to uplift the lives around me,” he shares, and this dedication led him to pursue a career as a mountaineering guide.

    In 2002, Driss earned his certification at the Mountain Training Center in the High Central Atlas. Since then, he has spent over two decades mastering his craft and sharing his passion for Morocco's breathtaking landscapes. His defining moment came in 2005 when he was featured in the National Geographic Magazine article “Among the Berbers.” Reflecting on this milestone, he says, “That experience opened my world and inspired me to open it to others.”

    Driss’s trips are more than treks; they’re invitations to connect deeply with the land and its people. “I want you to witness, reside, and feel the warmth of Moroccan hospitality,” he says with a smile.     Day 1 - Marrakech

    Marhaba in Morocco, our team will pick you up from the airport in a private car. We'll escort you to your hotel, allowing you to settle in and unwind after your journey. Later in the day, you'll have the opportunity to meet the rest of the group and our team, getting acquainted with fellow travelers. To kick off your Moroccan adventure, we'll take an evening stroll to soak in the local atmosphere and savor a dinner at a charming spot.

    Day 2 - Aït Bouguemez - Aït Boualli

    On this day, we depart from Marrakech in the morning. Our journey takes us through the landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains.

    As we ascend, we'll make a stop in Demnat, a town central to the High Atlas, to soak in the local culture. Then, you will visit the small village of Iminifri. Here, you'll witness a natural wonder: a natural bridge spanning a rocky gorge, offering a glimpse into Morocco's geological marvels.

    Continuing our journey, we'll wind through the rugged terrain, offering raw nature views at every turn. Finally, we'll arrive at a mountain riad in Aït Boualli, where rustic meets the rugged beauty of the High Atlas. At night, savor a delicious dinner, your first taste of the mountain flavors that await you.

    Day 3 - Tafenfant - Azibs N’Ikkis

    Awaken in Ait Boualli, after breakfast, we set out on our journey. Our destination: the Tafenfant Plateau.

    As we drive, the landscapes transform around us, offering glimpses of Morocco's natural beauty. Along the way, we'll pause for lunch, traditionally prepared by our local cook.

    Our trek begins with a two-hour walk, leading us to the n-Ikkis assif. The path descends as we follow the ridge, revealing breathtaking views of M'Goun's northern slope. Our day's journey concludes as we reach our camping spot at an elevation of 2,950 meters (9678 feet).

    Today's trek involves 6 to 7 hours of walking, with a challenging morning ascent followed by a gentler afternoon descent. It's a day that combines both physical exertion and natural immersion.

    Day 4 - Ikkis - Oullilymt Valley

    Rise and shine in the M'goun Valley, surrounded by the natural beauty of the High Atlas. Today, we embark on an adventure—the ascent of Igoudamen.

    Depending on the season, you might have the unique opportunity to encounter nomadic families seeking respite from the Sahara's summer heat. It's a chance to learn about their way of life and the rich traditions that have sustained them for generations.

    Our path leads us down to Oullilymt, where we'll set up camp for the evening. Today's trek entails 6 to 7 hours of walking, with a challenging morning ascent and a more moderate afternoon descent. It's a day filled with cultural insights and scenic wonders.

    Day 5 - Aflafal
    Begin your day with breakfast in Oullilymt, setting the stage for another day of exploration in the High Atlas.

    Our path leads us along the bed of the Oullilymt assif, guiding us eastward. Here, fairy chimneys rise along the stream and flank of the valley. It's a mesmerizing sight as we approach the sources of Aflafal, often referred to as "the magic source", nestled at an elevation of 2300 meters (7546 feet).

    As the day unfolds, you'll be surrounded by the High Atlas' beauty, immersing yourself in the local natural setting. This day's trek involves five hours of walking, with a leisurely trek during the day.

    Day 6 - Ait Imi

    Today, we depart from the tranquil Mgoun Valley, where agriculture and livestock breeding sustain the local way of life.

    Our path leads us to the Aït Imi pass at 2990 meters (9810 feet) above sea level. The morning hike might be challenging, but it rewards us with stunning views. We then descend to the charming village of Aït Imi, situated at 1900 meters (6233 feet).

    Here, we'll enjoy a well-deserved dinner and spend the night in either a camp or a lodge, depending on the season.

    Expect a total of 6 hours of walking today, with a challenging morning ascent followed by a more moderate afternoon descent. It's a day that not only showcases the beauty of the region but also provides insights into the rural life that thrives in the High Atlas.

    Day 7 - Akourbi - Ikhf N'ighir

    After enjoying breakfast, it's time for you to journey to the Akourbi village. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to explore the Ibakliwine village, where traces of dinosaurs from the ancient past are etched into the landscape.

    Your walk will provide you with a glimpse into the daily life of the locals in the Ait Bouguemez Valley, offering you a deeper understanding of their culture. You'll also make a slight ascent to the collective granary known as Sidi Moussa, a fortified Kasbah that once safeguarded valuables, wheat, and corn—an ancient bank of sorts.

    As night falls, you'll find comfort in your lodge accommodations, a well-deserved rest after a day of exploration.

    Today's journey encompasses 6 hours of walking, with a challenging morning trek followed by a more moderate afternoon stroll. It's a day that allows you to connect with the locals, discover prehistoric wonders, and dive into the history of this region.

    Following breakfast, we set out for Azilal. Your journey takes you across the High Atlas Mountains, leading you to the breathtaking Ouzoud Waterfalls.

    Here, you'll tour the cascades, surrounded by the lush greenery and the soothing sound of rushing water. It's an escape into nature's beauty.

    As the day progresses, we make our way down to the plain of El Haouz, where traditional Berber villages dot the landscape. By afternoon, we arrive back in vibrant Marrakech, with your traditional Riad accommodation.

    Day 9 - Marrakech

As you navigate the labyrinthine streets, you'll encounter architectural marvels like the Koutoubia Mosque. This site is an example of Moorish architecture, a masterpiece of 12th-century. Its minaret's design has inspired structures worldwide. And you will visit the intricately designed Bahia Palace, offering insight into Morocco's royal past.

    The bustling Jamaa el Fna Square awaits, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you can witness the artistry of local artisans, from leatherworkers and metalworkers to carpet weavers and pottery artisans. Don't miss the opportunity to get souvenirs from the souks that surround the square, where centuries-old trading traditions still thrive.

    In the evening, prepare for a traditional Moroccan hammam night, a rejuvenating and culturally immersive experience. The hammam is a communal bathhouse where you can cleanse and relax in a soothing steamy environment.
